Drug Awareness Programme – “Towards a Drug- Free- Campus” at Rosa Mystica PU College

Rosa Mystica PU College, Kinnikambla, in collaboration with Swastika National Business School, organised a Drug Awareness Programme titled “Towards a Drug-Free Campus” on September 12, 2026, at 2.00 p.m. in the college auditorium. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about drug abuse, its causes, harmful effects, and the serious consequences of substance addiction, while encouraging them to make responsible and healthy choices.

The programme was graced by Mrs Lydia Lobo, Administrator, Link Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, Bajal, Mangaluru, who served as the resource person, and Mrs Sangeetha Madhuraj, Coordinator, Skill Club, Swastika National Business School.

Mrs Lydia Lobo addressed the students on the causes and stages of drug addiction, particularly among young people. She explained the four stages of addiction—experimentation, regular use, risky use, and dependency—and highlighted how seemingly casual experimentation can gradually develop into serious dependence. Through practical examples and experiences from the rehabilitation centre, she sensitised students to the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse. She also spoke about the dangers associated with substances such as alcohol, tobacco, ganja, brown sugar, whitener, petrol, and other harmful substances that may be misused by youngsters. She emphasised that substance abuse can severely affect memory, judgement, behaviour, relationships, and future prospects, and may also lead to serious offences and legal consequences.

The programme was compered by Mr Avil Renil D’Silva, who also welcomed the gathering. Mrs Supriya J Lopis proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the resource person and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.

It ended   with a strong and meaningful message to the students: “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life
